Writers from a Writer Ep. IV

Hello curious readers!! This is a month I'm very excited for, because it was such a hands-on activity for me to justify making time for. One thing about me is that I LOVE scrapbooking. I like mindlessly gluing images onto cardstock, writing little notes  in my doctor's-print and leaving messages about the photos. I like arranging and rearranging their orders, colouring  - I actually even make my own stickers (a quarantine pastime that stuck). All that being said, it does make me feel childish sometimes, which is why this month's piece was so refreshing to work on.

I find children's literature very fascinating. How it winds through time and affects how generations behave, the actual creation of these stories, the necessity of going outside of your own mind to focus not on what you find interesting, but what someone much younger than you will enjoy, instead. The colouring, the designs, the layout, the structure, the words… how can these writers create such vivid scenes which stick and claw out at us when we feel nostalgic? In order to write a full-fledged piece this month, I really wanted to focus on these exact themes. What made me like the books I did when I was a kid?

In order to do that, we have to take a trip down memory lane…

Aslan is one of my top 10 characters of all time I'm not even kidding. Go read the entire series RIGHT NOW!! Most people stop at The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and that's such a sad fact. Start with The Magician's Nephew and work your way up. Such a great series. (Illustrations Pauline Baynes).

I have a veryyy vivid memory of this exact lamppost embedded in my brain, where it has taken up permanent residence righttt next to the much more important biology material I just studied. I blame my loss of that on this drawing having it evicted.
