ABOUT

The name "Dreaming Land" comes from a song my mom made up shortly before I turned four. Let me paint you an image: it is the Spring of 2010, and my sister and I are being tucked into bed by our mom. "Read us a story!" we beg her. But stories in our house, at that point anyway, were open to much more interpretation than I think any author ever intended…oops. In my family, picture books (which are basically all that's read to four and six-year olds) were ultimately seen as inspiration during story time - a jumping off point for your own imagination to take control. Eventually, a lot of our own stories became what we wanted to hear. But remembering your own story -  which was likely told several nights ago in a sleepy daze, without ever having been written down - is hard enough to remember. And so my mom turned them into songs. Specifically, that's how our "Dreaming Land" came about. A story of a make-believe land with forests made of lollipops, cotton candy clouds, and oversized bumblebees would whisk us off to sleep every night. Not only did this tactic ensure our stories were never forgotten, even if they differed slightly each time, but it also greatly contributed to my lifelong love of writing. "Dreaming Land" is a way for me to publicize my love for creativity.

If you were looking for a more professional-sounding bio, one that outlines my awards and achievements (of which there are none), then this may suffice:

Raised in the Canadian Rockies, Maya Dietrich's work is creative, driven, and eclectic. Spanning multiple different genres and mediums, she is first and foremost a writer, and one who uses her surroundings and experiences to craft memorable and relatable stories.

There you go! Although I think my actual writing encapsulates who I am better than any bio could. You can check it out under the "Blog" tab at the top, although I expect you knew that, it's not like the internet's new.
